Koryak is a work for solo prepared soprano saxophone by Australian saxophonist, Andrew Ball. Recorded on his debut album, Forbidden Languages, Koryak is a descriptive and highly evocative piece which challenges the performer with high register playing, bends, improvisation and embouchure manipulations.
The piece contains detailed instructions for the required preparations of your saxophone from the composer. A (straight) soprano saxophone should be prepared with a tube firmly inserted into the body of the instrument. The tube should fit up to, but not past, the "G#" tone hole around the middle of the instrument. Following the instructions in the sheet music will allow for a simple preparation making a huge musical difference!

Forbidden Languages is a suite for solo saxophones, comprising a body of work composed and recorded between 2015 - 2017. Each stand-alone ‘movement’ is informed by an arcane aspect of symbolism or mythology, within the broader context of language as an abstract, imaginary, irrational, ephemeral concept. The mission of this work is to push the capabilities of the performer, to blur the line between composition, improvisation and experimentation, to challenge the technical and expressive limits of the instrument, and to inspire further experimentation with the saxophone.
